The new Powell’s in Cedar Hills Crossing is one of my favorite bookstores. It's a little easier for me to get to than the Powell's downtown and even though it's smaller, the selection is really good. Plus, they always seem to have the most young adult authors speaking each month. I plan to see Shannon Hale, author of Goose Girl and the Princess Academy this Saturday at 2 p.m. It's so difficult to look through the Powell's young adult section and not walk away with 20 new books to read.

It's a new year and the Mother Daughter Book Clubs I belong to with my two daughters are picking up with new selections. I'm hosting both groups this month, so I'll be busy reading, cleaning and cooking. Here's what's on tap:

Middle School Book Club:

Whether you're a member of a Mother Daughter Book Club or not, you're probably very interested in what your child is reading. The Web site I publish, MotherDaughterBookClub.com, aims to aid parents and kids by helping them choose age-appropriate books that they can read as part of a group or on their own.

Reader's can find book reviews and author interviews in addition to ideas for what to do in meetings. I'm always interested in hearing from people everywhere about what they're reading, and things they do and don't like about the book.
